Core 40

The Indiana State Board of Education adopts course and credit requirements for earning a high school diploma. Current course and credit requirements went into effect for students who entered high school in the fall of 2012 (Class of 2016). Students have the option of earning an Indiana Diploma with the following designation(s):

General;
Core 40;
Core 40 with Academic Honors (AHD); or
Core 40 with Technical Honors (THD).

Twenty First Century Scholars

What is the 21st Century Scholarship?

A national model for success, Indiana’s 21st Century Scholars program started in 1990. It is an early-college promise program designed to help ensure that every Hoosier student can afford the opportunity provided by a college education. Today, eligible students who maintain the Scholar Pledge to excellence in school and life receive a scholarship for up to four years of up to 100% tuition at an eligible Indiana college or university after they graduate from high school.

What does the 21st Century Scholarship cover?

At in-state, public two-year and four-year colleges, the 21st Century Scholarship covers up to 100 percent of tuition and some regularly assessed fees, such as technology, student-activity and health-services fees. The scholarship pays part of the tuition at private or independent colleges and approved for-profit specialty or proprietary schools. Mission: The East Chicago Central High School Counseling Program is to work with educators, parents/guardians, and community partners to provide a comprehensive counseling program that supports students’ academic, personal/social, and career growth, preparing them to be self-directed, lifelong learners ready for college, career, and military service.

Vision: The East Chicago Central High School Counseling Program is to ensure equal access to a comprehensive counseling program that is an integral part of each student’s educational experience. Through collaboration with educators, parents, and community partners, the program addresses the needs and goals of every student, supporting high school completion and preparing them for college, career, and military readiness.

Individual Planning

To meet with students on an individual basis to create and monitor a four year academic plan for high school
To meet with students individually to explore post-secondary options focusing on college/career readiness
To meet with students individually focusing on personal and social/emotional needs

Responsive Services

To work with students — both individually and in small groups — in response to a variety of academic, emotional and personal/social needs, thus providing opportunities for students to develop coping skills and compensatory strategies.
